Where do fruit flies come from?!

Your cell phone charm reminds me of this. Cute. (And I will make this!)

So, my latest gripe in the past few days have been the fruit flies invading our kitchen. I suspect it has to do with the bananas that Jen and I leave lying around in the kitchen—it’s gotten to the point where after they ripen SLIGHTLY, I’ll need to store them in our fridge. And I am not a fan of refrigerated bananas. Their texture becomes different and the sweetness is completely gone.

Even without fruits, though, they LOVE our trash. We’ve moved our trash to under the sink and thought that’d keep out the flies, since it’s shut in with the cabinet door, but I still found more this morning. I spent all of last week after yoga class killing all the fruit flies in our bathroom and in our kitchen for a good 20 minutes. (Fruit flies incite my anger more than my disgust, so I am able to kill them without squirming too much, although I still do use excessive paper to kill the wee things.)

Ben thinks it’s because we keep our kitchen window open. I don’t think that’s the case, but I’m going to try shutting it and see if that changes anything. Otherwise I’m planning on setting a beer-and-funnel trap.

… you don’t think the flies lay EGGS inside the skin of the fruit, do you?!?!
